September 28/17 Our guest speaker will be Alison Roberts-Zschoke: everyday life in the Galapagos; Paradise vs Reality. While the natural beauty of the archipelago can hardly be disputed, a growing population dependent on tourism makes conservation a difficult task. This presentation will give an introduction to the Galapagos Islands and discuss how tourism and conservation are negotiated and manipulated by the local population. Using photos from their 6 month stay in Puerto Ayora, the presenters hope to shed some light on everyday life in these “enchanted islands” in the Pacific.
