We are looking forward to seeing everyone at the September 27th meeting of the South Okanagan Naturalists Club. We will be welcoming, as our presenters, Jason and Matthias Bieber, who are actively involved in the BC Hummingbird Project, the Vaseux Lake Migration Monitoring Program and the Summerland MAPS project. Their talk will cover all three of these areas of interest.

April 26/18 SONC monthly meeting, Dr Alan Burger will talk about Antarctic Wildlife—Life in a Changing Environment. Dr. Burger is a recently retired sea-bird biologist and university professor. He regularly goes to the Antarctic as a naturalist/lecturer on small adventure-tourism vessels.

March 22/18 SONC monthly meeting. Dr. Candice Gartner— Projects Coordinator, Community Services , RDOS. Candice will talk about the Regional District Heritage Register and explore some of the ways SONC might contribute to this undertaking
Speaker: Kristen Mancuso – migration ecology of Yellow-breasted Chats and Gray Catbirds
February 22/18—SONC monthly meeting. Kristen Mancuso (a PhD student at UBCO) will talk about her research on the migration ecology of Yellow-breasted Chats and Gray Catbirds breeding in the south Okanagan Valley. Both species are at the northwestern periphery of their breeding range in the south Okanagan but she will incorporate a range-wide perspective on connecting breeding and wintering grounds.

January 25/18— SONC monthly meeting. This is our annual members’ night event when you can give a mini-slide show of any photos you want: hiking in the Alps, viewing cacti in Arizona, stalking Bighorn sheep in our valley—whatever your photos, show some of them to your fellow club members.
